Review of a New Metho

I was excited to find out that Mark O'Connor had published a new violin method, so I immediately bought a copy. I like the variations he has of Boil Them Cabbage Down, the original songs he has included and the boxes of information about each song. However, there are enough things about it that will keep me from using it wholescale with students or classes. First, it's for violin alone - no viola or cello - with many songs on the E string. So, I can't use it with my school classes. Second, the binding does not allow for it to stay open easily. That's frustrating. Third, it costs quite a bit ($27).

Gustavo Dudamel

Here is an interview on NPR with Gustavo Dudamel. Wouldn't it be grand to be able to sit in on his rehearsals with the LA Phil?

In My Head

Whenever we have a concert weekend (Friday night dress rehearsal, Saturday night concert, Sunday afternoon concert), I get the music running through my head for the next week. Right now I have the Brahms First Symphony inhabiting my brain. Could be lots worse.
