So, the Claremont Concert Orchestra is working on Beethoven's 5th for our upcoming concert. It's only 35 minutes worth of music, but the more we work on it, the more details we endeavor to bring out. Beethoven was a meticulous composer, notating many very specific dynamics, and it seems as though we have circled just about every one of them - make sure you play this subito forte!
It reminds me of my high school English teacher my junior year. We were studying American Lit, and Mr. Sigg was a great fan of Hemingway. We were reading A Farewell to Arms, and we dissected just about every drop of rain that fell in that book. I may not remember everything in that book, but I remember enough of it, lo these many years later.
Although I know this symphony pretty well, I am sure that I will remember more of the details as the years go on, especially in the viola part.
